Special Solutions

No two warehouses are the same, and some businesses have storage requirements that go beyond the conventional. Whether it’s the nature of the goods being stored, the environment they need to be stored in, or the regulatory standards that must be met, certain industries demand a more tailored approach.

Over the years, Modula has worked closely with businesses across a wide range of industrial sectors to develop specialised storage solutions that address exactly these kinds of challenges. This experience has led to the design of purpose-built applications for companies handling sensitive or high-value goods, including electronic components, pharmaceuticals and food products, where temperature, humidity, contamination or handling requirements mean that standard solutions simply won’t do.

Modula’s special solutions also include dedicated fire protection and anti-seismic devices, engineered to minimise the impact of fires or earthquakes on both stock and infrastructure.

Storage Solutions for Temperature-Controlled Environments and Clean Rooms

Storage requirements aren’t universal; they vary considerably depending on the sector, the product being stored, and the conditions needed to keep that product in its best possible state. In industries such as pharmaceuticals, food production, chemicals and electronics, the demands placed on a storage system go far beyond simply holding stock efficiently.

Automated vertical warehouses operating in these environments must be designed and built to meet strict standards covering temperature control, humidity levels, cleanliness and product preservation.

Modula’s storage solutions are engineered with these demands in mind. Space optimisation is an obvious benefit, but in these applications, it’s just the starting point. The broader value lies in what the system delivers across the whole operation:

  • Product protection: Goods are stored in a controlled, enclosed environment.
  • Precise stock access: Fast, accurate retrieval of specific SKU codes.
  • High-volume handling: The system is built to manage large numbers of product lines.
  • Regulatory compliance: Modula’s solutions are designed to support adherence to the relevant storage regulations and industry standards.

Meeting the Demands of Regulated Storage Environments

In certain industries, the regulatory framework around storage isn’t just demanding – it’s non-negotiable. The way materials are stored can directly affect product quality, safety and compliance.

For businesses handling goods that require tightly managed conditions, standard storage infrastructure often falls short. Depending on the application, the requirements might include controlled temperature environments, controlled atmosphere storage, cold storage installations, frozen storage facilities, or temperature-regulated warehouses, sometimes a combination of several. Each of these presents its own engineering and operational challenges, and each demands a solution that has been specifically designed with those conditions in mind.

Modula has developed a range of automatic storage solutions built to operate reliably within these kinds of environments.

The result is an automated storage system that doesn’t just work within a controlled environment, it’s designed for it, giving businesses in highly regulated sectors the confidence that their storage infrastructure is fully aligned with the standards they’re required to meet.

Anti-Seismic Safety Systems

Seismic Protection for Earthquake-Prone Regions

Rather than reinforcing a warehouse to make it more rigid, which adds weight and cost without necessarily improving safety, Modula’s anti-seismic solution pairs structural reinforcement with seismic isolation. The system is engineered around the horizontal peak ground acceleration (PGA) a warehouse is likely to experience in an earthquake. The seismic isolator remains inactive during normal operation and only engages when ground movement is detected, so day-to-day performance is unaffected.

  • Validated through testing at Italy’s Eucentre Foundation, a leading European centre for earthquake risk research.
  • Tested to withstand horizontal accelerations of over 1G.
  • No recorded damage to the warehouse structure or trays under test conditions.
  • Minimal tray movement, with normal operation resuming immediately after the seismic event.
